The Wellcome Collection

Welcome to my guide to the Welcome Collection. Ok no more puns from now on, you’re welcome.

Just one block down from one of London’s biggest and best hospitals, the Wellcome Collection is a series of exhibits on medical history, theory, and technology.

A collection of old amulets

What: A small but expertly set up museum on medical advancement and history.

Where: On Euston Road, literally next door to Euston Square Station.

When: 10 am – 6 pm (8 pm on Thursdays), every day besides Monday, when the museum is closed.

Who: Though children are allowed, the museum is strongly geared towards a more mature audience, with illness, childbirth, sexual health, and healing amulets and religion in medicine all being prevalent themes which a child may find both uninteresting and/or disturbing.

How long: Give the museum an hour. You can spend eternity in the peaceful reading room though.

Highlight: MILK, a free temporary exhibit on milk in childcare, health, and production, is a superb instalment open until September 10th. The reading room is positively blissful in it’s uber-relaxed ambience.

Interactivity: Not much by way of interactivity, though the exhibits are quite gripping.

Cost: Free

Events and specials: The museum has constantly changing temporary exhibitions, mostly free. They also have many events for older teens. Check here for details and dates.
