Five of the Best Picnic Spots in NYC

Grass is green, blankets are laid, frisbees are thrown, lemonades are downed, and Pizzas are gobbled; It’s Picnic season in the Big Apple.

July is National Picnic Month! So there’s no better time to get yourself a basket, round up some friends, and turn a rolling hill into your dining room.

But where to go?

Worry not; Here are some of the best picnic spots in NYC.

Prospect Park:

My personal Go-To; The pride of Brooklyn’s parks, is crisscrossed with some of the cities best lawns. Though the park is quite foresty, and much of the space is too steep and tree-covered to make base in, there’s a solid amount of green space. My favourite picnic spot in Prospect is right here 📌

Rockefeller Park

This small Manhattan park straddles the Hudson Riverside. With views across and down the river, including the Statue of Liberty, and of the impressive One World Trade Center, it’s worth coming out to this cozy (though quite busy) spot near the financial District.

Summer Solstice at Rockefeller Park (hence the larger crowds).

The best picnic spot here is in the “corner side”.

Little Bay Park

For something a bit different than the classic grassy picnic, enjoy some evening grub on the Little Bay Bridge Pier, a pier made of rocks with one of the cities best sunset views!

Little Bay isn’t well connected to public transport and is better reached by car.

Governors Island Picnic Point:

I mean, it’s literally called “Picnic Point”! Governors Island is in general an amazing summer escape from New York’s constant rush. The island is car free, with the only way to get there being by ferry. Once on the island, you can rent a bike to get around, or simply enjoy the great walks around the island. All the at the South Western point of the island is Picnic Point. A pretty, grassy space, with views of Downtown Manhattan and of Lady Liberty herself.

Central Park:

Simply iconic

The city’s picnic capital, as busy as it is, Central Park is just so huge that you’ll always find a place to sit your group down and enjoy a picnic in what is probably the most well-known picnic spot on earth.
