Bank of England Museum

Let’s take a look at one of London’s lesser known museums, but one of its most important.

What: The Bank of England Museum is a smaller museum showing the history of the bank, how currency works in England, and the world of finance (well, a bit of it).

Where: On Bartholomew Street, right next to the Royal Exchange The nearest tube station is (suprise suprise), Bank. 

When: The Museum’s open from Mon-Fri from 10 am – 5 pm but is closed on Saturday and Sunday. 

Who: Anyone can enjoy this museum. Children may bore quickly but the museum is quite small so this shouldn’t be an issue.

How Much: Free (suggested donation).

Can you lift the gold bar?

How Long: This is a small museum and you should be able to see everything within an hour. 

Highlights: Trying to lift a massive gold bar, and learning about the security features used to protect against counterfeiting.

Interactivity: There are a few interactive displays, mostly geared for younger children, spread out nicely between the exhibits. 

Events and Specials: The museum keeps its doors open until 8 pm on the third Thursday of each month.
