(Writing and publishing this on a speeding van, so apologies for any spelling/grammar mistakes, but this is the most “organic” post I’ve made by a long run.)
Many times when travelling, someone from a big city will see a mountain village and proclaim how “Wow! These people live such a simple life yet they really know how to live!”
Someone from a lakeside small town may come to a sprawling metropolis and wonder in awe at the hustle and bustle lifestyle the city dwellers have.
A backpacker from England will see an elderly man singing kareoke on his chair by his Bahn Mhi stall in Hanoi and ponder how she can reach that level of care free confidence in their life. And so on and so forth… people see another culture and can’t help but wonder what they can do to make their grass a bit greener.
Today, while driving through a small Ecuadorian village, I saw a man cruising down the main street on his bicycle. He was adjusting his green gloves and singing along to a small speaker he’d put in his little basket, and I thought; This guy would enjoy life wherever he is. I’d assume that whether he was riding down 6th Ave in NYC, through Cape Towns promenade, or up a winding hill in Laos….he’d be loving it all the same.
So, the moral of the story is; Obnoxiously blast music on a bicycle wherever you are, and you’ll be happy 😊
